Untilizing Video In Classroom Activities

Usng aids for learning activities is very common among or practitiones. One of familiar aids is using teaching video. Besides displaying picture, video produces sound. Videos are available in many type and from many sources, such as a tape, CD, DVD and online viceo (youtube).

Video cloud be teken from suitable film, animation millions videos of learning English whether in a short or long duration, easiest or herdest levels, profesional practitioners or amateur tagged as educational videos.

What do we do if we want to use videos to teach students? Here are several ways for to star using videos as teaching aid :

1. Choose the right video

YouTube displays millions uploaded videos which are updated every day. Teachers have to select to appropriate videos based on the level of students and material to teach

2. Download or stream the video online

To avoid problems of online videos, teachers should download the chosen videos into the play list. If they use the videos online, they will meet the internet connection and advertisement. Therefore downloading the video before using is the best option

3. Bring the video to the students

There are many ways to bring the videos into classroom activities such as using LCD projector connected to the laptop or computers, and TV with CD Players. Due to lack of facilities, teacher should be able to fit what kids of videos will be used.

The follow up action is also needed not only to watch the video and listen to the teacher explanation. In empowering their understanding about the lesson, a teacher has to make sure that their students really understand about the lesson. A simple assessment may help the students review the lesson to make the long term memory works. I collect some follow up actions :

1. Simple questions

Question and answer will build the memory about the topic. Explore students' understanding with simple question after watching and explaining the material by using "what, where, when, why, who, and how". Don't forget to ask them using interrogative questions.

2. The expressions

Ask the students to repeat some expressions from the video. It Will train their. Fluency and develop their speaking skills. The will increase their confidence, too.

3. Conversation

Make a small conversation using the expression they got from the video. Make sure they say the right expression and good composition of sentence.

4. Search videos

Students search the reliable videos related to the material given as an alternative reference using their own device. Teachers guide them by giving keywords so they directly go to the recommended videos. They will find their own ways to trace the videos and get something more out of them.

5. Make a vidoe

Encourage the students to record their own videos (monolog or dialog) and upload to youTube for filing. Teachers are possible to make their own channel on youTube so the videos are well-organized and easy to access.

6. Share the videos

Share the video to other social media in order to show studensts' ability that everyone can view and give comment to their performance. This will make the students more confident.

The hardest challenge of teachers to apply this is the facilities available. We realize not all teachers have such facilities mentioned above. Only those who have willing and desire to explore something new dare to accept this challenge. Teachers should be creative in talking advantage of the methods into teaching learning activity and share to us.
